Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha has inaugurated a Stem Cell Lab Centre of Excellence at the state-run Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad.
This marks a significant step towards advancing regenerative medicine in the public healthcare system.
Speaking at the inauguration, the minister said stem cell treatment is currently available mainly at select corporate hospitals, making it inaccessible to large sections of society. The new facility at NIMS has been established with the objective of bringing advanced medical treatment within the reach of common people, especially economically weaker patients.
The laboratory has been set up in collaboration with Tulsi Therapeutics, a private firm, and will focus on extensive research in stem cell therapy. According to the minister, the research outcomes are expected to help develop cost-effective stem cell treatments that can be offered to poor patients at affordable rates.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare institutions and ensuring that cutting-edge treatments are not limited to private hospitals. Doctors from NIMS and representatives of Tulsi Therapeutics were present at the event.
The initiative is expected to position NIMS as a key public-sector hub for stem cell research and therapy in the region.
